A Musical Giveaway!

“I will never leave you, or forsake you

Know that I am with you; you will never be alone…”

These words can be heard flowing through our house at many different times of the week – during quiet time, on Sabbath morning, while rocking the baby, and whenever stresses mount. The words are set to the music of Jay Stocker on the album “Hidden in My Heart: A Lullaby Journey through Scripture”

This volume of scriptures set to music quickly became a favorite in our home as soon as we heard it over a year ago. The scriptures of encouragement and comfort that are set to absolutely beautiful music have blessed our family so much. I actually labored to these lullabies while delivering Emma at home. A second volume of lullabies has just been released and we already love that one, too.

The lullabies are not only for babies. Everyone in our family has appreciated them equally. As a musician. I really appreciate the musicianship put into these CDs. (For example, the singers are accompanied by a real orchestra rather than by synthesizers like so many lullaby CDs.)

I would love to share one of these albums with your family, so I decided to have a little giveaway this week. Two winners will receive their choice of either a hard copy CD or a digital download of either Volume 1 or Volume 2 of Scripture Lullabies.

If you’d like to enter this giveaway, here is what you have to do:

1. Go to the Scripture Lullabies website and click on the icons of the two albums.

There you can listen to clips of songs from the albums. While you’re at the website, be sure to download your free full-length lullaby by clicking on the tab called “Free Lullabies”. Also, you can watch a short video about making Volume II HERE.

2. Come back to my blog and leave a comment letting me know which album you would like to win.

You can also tell me which song you like the best! (My favorite from Vol. 1 is “I Will Never Leave You” and from Vol. 2 “Wonderfully Made”)

3. If you’d like to have *2* entries into this giveaway, post about my giveaway on your own Facebook or blog.

Come back and let me know after you’ve posted and I’ll enter your name twice.

The giveaway will end on Sunday, February 12th at midnight. The winners will be posted on Monday, Feb 13th.

If you already own this album, feel free to enter to win a copy to share with someone else!

I’m so excited to have this opportunity to share this great music with you!

An abundance of words

This month marks the end of my fourth year of blogging. I’ve published a total of 450 posts.

That’s a lot of words.

I can hardly believe that I’m still going at this after so long. I had figured that I would have neither the will nor the stamina to still be writing here in 2011 when I started way back in 2007.

If you are a newer reader to my blog, there are several ways to delve into my old posts if you are so inclined. :)

1. On the sidebar on the right, you’ll find a drop-down menu entitled “Archives”. You can go all the way back to the beginning (July 2007) if you so desire and work your way up to the present.

2. In the same sidebar, directly above the Archive menu you will find a search box. You can search for blog posts on any topic from there.

3. At the very bottom of my blog, there is a “category cloud” that lists the different categories I have chosen to put my posts into. Clicking any one of those categories will take you to all of my writings on that subject. (You will also find my category tags directly underneath the title of each post, but clicking on these will send you to the main WordPress site that gathers ALL blog posts by all different authors who use that category.  If you want only my writings, you have to scroll down to the bottom of my blog.)

I hope this helps you find your way around!

Happy reading!

Blog Question

I’ve read that if you want a good following on your blog, it’s vital that you stick to one topic and write about it well. Blogs that are a random smattering of ideas and feelings, say the experts, will never keep readers engaged.

What do you think about that?

I tend to see my blog as a journal, and who writes about the same topic every day in their journal? Of course, not every post I write will be edifying to everyone, because very few of you (OK, probably none of you) are 32 years old, have 4 children, live on a farm with goats and chickens, home school, and love healthy cooking, playing piano, taking photographs, dancing around the living room and meandering down dirt roads!

However, some people will (hopefully) get some thing out of some of the posts I write.

On the other hand, I don’t want my words to be like the wind, either. I don’t want to utter speech just to make noise, but I want what comes out of my mouth (or fingers) to edify.

So, what do you think? Is there a subject you’d prefer that I just stick to and other subjects just drop? (For example, “Stop talking about your farm animals! This isn’t Little House on the Prairie – no one cares!” or “Enough with the Scripture references already!”)

Writing a blog is definitely a balance and I’m not sure that I’ve found that balance yet.

Any thoughts?

(Oh yeah, and the experts also say that it’s important to blog consistently, like every day. Oops. I think I’ll have to work on that some more, too.) :)

Time for a little break…

I’ve decided to take a blog break for the rest of the summer. Every once in awhile, I need to just step back from everything Internet-related and breathe a bit…

I’m so thankful that you come by to visit my little blog and share with me your thoughts and ideas. I look forward to “seeing” you again after school starts back up with more Children’s Book Monday reviews, more Learning Together Tuesdays as we start the year with a 2nd grader and a kindergartener, more To Market, To Market posts for all those yummy fall crops, and more Gratitude posts.

May the rest of your summer be filled with peace and thanksgiving.

Not what we say about our blessings, but how we use them, is the true measure of our thanksgiving.

Est. 2007

Do you know what I was doing in July 2007 besides waddling around 5 months pregnant and trying to care for my first fledgling garden? I was starting to write here at Where My Treasure Is. This month marks the 3rd anniversary of my blog and I’ve written 394 posts since that July three years ago. apparently, I have a lot to say. While that probably isn’t a surprise most of you, it was a surprise to me!

I began writing this blog for three reasons that I stated in my very first post

1 -  First and foremost, to update my family and friends about life on our homestead.

2 -To encourage other women to fulfill their Biblical role of wife and mother. I love learning new things about being feminine, taking care of my children and better following God’s plan for my life.

3- To learn from others as we exchange ideas on the above mentioned things.

I think that I’ve stuck pretty close to those goals, although once in awhile I slip into the occasional rant. :) I so enjoy writing here and you all have made it an encouraging and friendly place to write and to visit. I’ve met so many kind women whom I now consider friends during these past 3 years – including Carrie, Beth, Amanda, Elise, Kathi, Diane, and Kristen - and I look forward to meeting each of you in person someday!

In the past few days, I’ve enjoyed reading through some of my older posts from 2007 and 2008. I’m so glad that I decided to document my family’s lives in this way. It’s so fun to go back and see how the children have grown and how I, too, have grown in many ways.

Our family in July 2007

While going through them, I can more clearly see how cyclical my life is here on our little homestead. I’ve blogged about 4 summers of blueberries, 3 springs of new baby animals, 3 summers of garden struggles, and 3 falls of harvest. I’ve blogged my way through the ups and downs of 2 pregnancies and 3 years of homeschooling. In the midst of the regularity of my life, though, I hope that I have had something worthwhile and different to say each year.

If you’re a newer reader to my blog, I hope you get the opportunity sometime to go back through the archives. You can access them near the bottom of the sidebar on the right. I went through and pulled out a few highlights from the past 3 years – posts that either made it onto the “most-read” list, received the most comments, or are merely some of my favorites. Feel free to share your thoughts on any of them as some of the earlier ones were never even read by anybody (except for you, Mom) ;)

Stepping in quietly …

Hi! I can’t believe that it’s been almost 6 months since I’ve written here. I decided to return to blogging for a couple of reasons. My life seems so absolutely *crazy full* right now that I’m afraid that I may lose the art of communication and coherant thought if I don’t keep it in use. :)

Also, as I’ve looked back through my blog archives, I’ve realized how nice it is to have this pictoral essay of the little steps that our young family is taking as it grows.

So, I guess it is really for myself that I am back. I am not here to impress, to advise or to show off my life.

I’m just here to share. I would love to have you stop by for a visit sometime and share your thoughts with me, too. :)
