Worth a read this week

Please join me on my travels through the blogworld. There were some great posts this week!

Making Home: Jess has a good reminder for us here:

It is not in the moment of grief and tragedy that we should figure out how to work through it. We should be preparing NOW for those moments… reminding ourselves NOW that when tragedy comes, God will still be the same as He was yesterday, and the same as He will forever be. We should be preparing our heart to say, “Blessed be the name of the LORD” in those most difficult moments. Cause, frankly, it’s easy to say “Blessed be the name of the LORD” when your bills are paid, and your kids are all cheerfully singing “kum-ba-ya” in a circle with their arms linked and then skipping off merrily to do their chores, and your husband or wife is lovingly looking at you with adoration, and outside, the rainbow is shining and the birds are sweetly chirping on your freshly bloomed rose bush.

She also wrote a great post called “When Women Argue With the Potter“about how sometimes we balk at the role that God has given us as women.

A Path Made Straight: There are few people out there blogging who are truly writers, those who can express ideas beautifully and succinctly. To me, Elise is one of those people. It is always a joy to read her blog. A few days ago, she posted one of her letters to her daughter, Eliana, that really hit home with me.

My little mirror.

Wherever did you find that frown, knitting itself together between your green eyes?
And how did you happen upon those tears, dangling precariously from your lashes?
And that petulant gaze- who taught you that?
The slumped shoulders?
The crossed arms…
The…

I know. Oh, yes. I know.

My love, you are my reflection. And I’m sorry to say that there are many times when I am disappointed with my appearance. It would seem that you mimic me in more ways than just the blond ponytail brushing across your shoulder

Domestic Felicity: Anna isn’t afraid to write about topics that may not be politically correct! I really enjoy her blog. This week she took a balanced approach with the topic of modesty.

As I start another post about modesty, I can almost see in the eyes of my mind a young girl or woman out there, giving a little sigh and saying to herself: ‘Yes, I know modesty is good and right; I know it’s important. But I’m just getting a little tired of reading about how I should only wear skirts, how tight is too tight, and how I shouldn’t draw attention to myself. No fun!’

Well, actually, the message I would like to give today is quite different. Certainly there’s nothing wrong with being valued, cherished, and appreciated – and yes, getting attention. Only we need to make sure it’s the right kind of attention.

Seeking Faithfulness: Holly just had a baby girl a few weeks ago! She is doing a little series on newborn care that, of course, I’m excited about. (You can’t really think about much else when you have a newborn in the house.) So far, she’s covered newborn sleep and newborn ailments.

I love learning how experienced mothers do things! They’re often so much more helpful than the so-called childcare ”experts”

Making It Home: Cat shares how she’s been learning to make potpourri. I’m going to give this a try!
